Shares of Walmart-backed Ibotta soar 23% on public debut

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of Ibotta, a Walmart-backed digital company that offers customers cash-back rewards and rebates on grocery brands ranging from Nestle to Coca-Cola, rose 23% in its Wall Street debut on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock, which trades under the ticker “IBTA,” opened Thursday at $107.10, above the $88 offering price and outside of the originally expected pricing range of $76 and $84 per share The Denver company, founded by lawyer Bryan Leach in 2011, works with more than 850 different clients and represents 2,400 consumer packaged brands, according to its prospectus filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Walmart, Family Dollar, Kroger and other major retailers use Ibott’s artificial intelligence-enabled software, which delivers promotions that match customers’ purchasing behavior. Ibotta said it only gets paid when a customer sees a company’s promotion and it results in a sale. Those customers get cash back every time they buy something in a participating brand’s store or on their app, with the money deposited in their bank account or applied to a gift card.

Forget Pepsi and Coke: The 3 Best Beverage Stocks to Buy Instead

Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO ) and PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP ) are the first names that most investors think of when it comes to non-alcoholic beverage stocks. The competition between Coke and Pepsi is intense and cutthroat. Pepsi recently announced that it had wrestled the Subway account away from Coca-Cola. “For nearly twenty years, The Coca-Cola Company has proudly served Subway restaurants in the U.S,” Coca-Cola told Fortune in a statement. “We are committed to serving Subway through the end of this year and will remain focused on delivering value for Subway, their Franchisee Partners, and consumers.” In addition to getting the beverage account from Subway, it already supplies it with Frit0-Lay chips. You can invest in KO and PEP stock. However, that comes with the usual shots across each other’s bow in pursuit of market share. Or, you can invest in a beverage stock and gain new ground in an intensely competitive industry. Here are three of my favorites other than Coke and Pepsi. Celsius Holdings (CELH) Source: The Image Party / Shutterstock Celsius Holdings (NASDAQ: CELH ) is the largest of the three, with a market capitalization of over $18 billion.

Market Meltdown? 3 Crash-Proof Stock Picks to Consider.

There’s a lot to be worried about with the stock market right now. Sticky inflation has kicked the timing of interest rate cuts down the road to this fall, the military conflict in the Middle East is escalating, bond yields are marching higher, and corporate earnings for this year’s first quarter are, so far, mixed at best. The end result is that the benchmark S&P 500 index is down 3% so far in April after rising 10% in this year’s first quarter. Where do we go from here? It’s difficult to say. The market outlook has certainly gotten more complicated in recent weeks. As such, many professional traders and hedge fund managers are getting defensive and preparing their portfolios for a potential market crash. News reports state that hedge funds are shedding growth stocks at the fastest pace in months and are allocating capital to more defensive names. Given the rising uncertainty, retail investors might want to do the same. Here is market meltdown? Three crash-proof stocks to consider. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A/BRK-B) Source: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.com Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A /NYSE: BRK-B ) is about as safe a harbor as investors are going to find in a market storm.

3 Dividend Aristocrats to Buy if Interest Rates Spike to 8%

In his annual letter to shareholders, JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM ) CEO Jamie Dimon warned that interest rates could rise to “ 8% or even more .” As the head of the largest bank in America, Dimon is very attuned to the impact of rising interest rates on consumers, companies and the global economy. For investors, Dividend Aristocrat stocks should become more appealing as long-term buys should interest rates rise. When interest rates rise, dividend-paying stocks tend to suffer as investors prefer less risky fixed-income instruments such as bonds that now have higher yields. To be a Dividend Aristocrat, a member of the S&P 500 must have increased their dividends annually for 25 years or more. As a great deal of the profit in the stock market emanates from dividends (as much as 85% of the total cumulative return according to research from Hartford Funds ), the income component of a stock is a significant part of the overall return. In that way, Dividend Aristocrats are superior to bonds as the income from the holding rises annually.
