Don’t Fret a Market Crash: 3 Recession-Resistant Stocks to Buy Before the Storm

Market turbulence happens. Lately, it’s becoming clear that investors need to be focusing on recession-resistant stocks. Companies that provide stable cash flows and pay out dividends, or reinvest their capital into their core high-growth businesses, are likely to outperform. If macro headwinds pick up, it’s better to be safe than sorry. And while growth has outperformed value for quite some time, it’s true that over the long-term, this dynamic is typically reversed. We could be headed into a period where companies that are fairly-valued and spit off tremendous cash flows are rewarded much more highly by the market. In that regard, I’ve picked three recession-resistant stocks that investors should consider. It doesn’t matter what happens to the market today or tomorrow. But if you expect some turbulence over the next year or two, these companies could be among the best picks to buy right now. (It’s also worth noting they should perform well in a booming economy as well, of course). Restaurant Brands (QSR) Source: Savvapanf Photo / Shutterstock.com As the parent company of big fast food chains like Popeyes and Burger King, Restaurant Brands (NYSE: QSR ) has stood tall through market turbulence.

McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal: What to Know About New Menu Special Coming in June

McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD ) is trying to woo back customers amid high inflation with a new $5 meal deal set to take place for a limited time starting in June. The McDonald’s $5 meal deal will see it offer a McChicken or a McDouble, a four-piece chicken nugget, fries and a drink. The offer will start on June 25 and will be available for about one month. McDonald’s isn’t offering this $5 meal deal alone as it’s teamed up with Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO ) for it. That has the soft drink company agreeing to cover any losses connected to the special offering. John Palmaccio, McDonald’s owner and operator and chair of the Operators National Advertising Fund, said the following to CNBC about the $5 meal deal. “Great value and affordability have always been a hallmark of McDonald’s brand, and all three legs of the stool are coming together to deliver that at a time when our customers really need it. This is the power and promise of the Golden Arches.” Will McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Beat Inflation? The offering from the fast-food giant may be a tempting one for consumers who are tired of high prices.

Dow Jones Industrial Average hits 40,000 for the first time

This book was published by David Elias in 1999 and he predicted the Dow Jones Industrial Average would "roar through the 40,000 level by the year 2016" (and specifically June 2, 2016). He was off by 50% on the timeline and the 2000-2009 period was a rough one, but he was on the right side of the market. I almost never look at the Dow Jones Industrial Average because it''s a relic that''s price weighted and only contains 30 stocks. Here are the 30 stocks in the DJIA: 3M Company (MMM) American Express (AXP) Amgen (AMGN) Apple (AAPL) Boeing (BA) Caterpillar (CAT) Chevron (CVX) Cisco Systems (CSCO) The Coca-Cola Company (KO) The Walt Disney Company (DIS) Dow Inc.
