Over the past 18 months, shares of online used car dealer Carvana (NASDAQ: CVNA ) staged a miraculous turnaround. Many expected to hear about a bankruptcy filing, not a rally. But beginning in January 2023, Carvana stock did just that and rocketed over 2,400% higher. The stock has already more than doubled so far this year. Furthermore, there are more beaten-down stocks you should consider. This was a company that consistently lost money (it had never been profitable) and suffered from a lack of inventory due to an industry-wide shortage, high prices and soaring interest rates. Yet it just posted its “best financial results in company history,” including its third consecutive quarter of GAAP profits. Finding such meteors to climb aboard isn’t easy, though long-time CVNA stock true believers might beg to disagree. But below are three companies ready to roar. They might not match the moonshot results of Carvana but these beaten-down stocks to buy should still juice your portfolio’s returns.
Finding stable investment options is essential for investors looking to grow despite market volatility in today’s unpredictable environment. Three companies emerge as strong contenders for a swift recovery. The first business is growing steadily in the direct-to-consumer (D2C) market, gaining subscribers and broadening its reach internationally. With a strategic expansion into nearly 40 countries and territories and adding millions of new members in a single quarter, the company is almost at the 100 million subscriber milestone. In the meantime, the second business is maintaining its position as a leader in the coffee market using its substantial brand equity and cutting-edge product offerings. Despite the industry’s difficulties, the company has a large client base, and cold beverages account for a sizable percentage of its sales. This suggests continued customer involvement and market relevance. Lastly, the third company has achieved a solid financial milestone in its U.S. healthcare division, as seen by its positive adjusted EBITDA.
Restaurants’ gross margins are increasing because the prices that they pay for goods, services and labor are no longer rising rapidly. Some of their costs are increasing slowly, while others are falling. Instead of lowering prices in response to their easing cost pressures, restaurant chains are reporting higher profits and/or buying back their shares. For example, Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI ), mentioned that it has seen labor costs stabilize and lower-than-expected commodity prices. With restaurant chains getting a boost from easing cost pressures and strong spending by the top 30% or so of wage earners, here are three top restaurant stocks to buy. Shake Shack (SHAK) Source: Here Now / Shutterstock.com Shake Shack (NYSE: SHAK ) stock rose almost 6% in the last month, and 70% in the last six months. It’s safe to say, SHAK is indeed sizzling. In March, Shake Shack tapped Papa John’s (NASDAQ: PZZA ) CEO Rob Lynch to take its top spot. Under Lynch, who became CEO of Papa John’s in 2019, the pizza chain’s operating income surged from $19.8 million in 2019 to $156.4 million last year.
NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart Inc. reported another quarter of strong quarterly results Thursday as its low prices pull in shoppers scouring for discounts with inflation stubbornly high . The nation’s largest retailer, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, also offered an upbeat outlook. Share rose more than 5% in premarket trading. Walmart reported profits of $5.10 billion, or 63 cents per share for the quarter ended April 30. That compares with $1.67 billion, or 21 cents per share, in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share was 60 cents, far surpassing estimates for 53 cents per share, according to FactSet analysts. Revenue rose 6% to $161.51 billion in the quarter, up from $152.3 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts expected $159.6 billion, according to FactSet. Comparable store sales — those from established stores and online operating over the past 12 months — rose 3.8% at Walmart’s U.S. stores, a bit slower than the 4%, in the fourth quarter . The metric rose 4.9% in the fiscal third quarter.

During these challenging times of persistent inflation and high food prices, executives need to be responsive to consumers’ needs. Unfortunately, Starbucks’s (NASADQ: SBUX ) management seems to be missing the mark in 2024. After reviewing the facts, I’m categorizing Starbucks stock as “cheap for a reason.” The situation with Starbucks has gotten so bad that former CEO Howard Schultz admitted there are “no quick fixes” for the company. Schultz also hinted that Starbucks is over-focusing on being “transactional” rather than “experiential.” To me, it sounds like Starbucks has lost its way. Suggesting that the company is overly “transactional” is, I believe, a polite way to say that Starbucks is too greedy and is overcharging its customers. That’s problematic, and perhaps even insensitive to the consumers’ needs, amid a challenging economic landscape. Starbucks’s ‘Stunning’ Quarterly Miss Before delving into the numbers, I’ll start off with a couple of quotes about Starbucks’s second-quarter fiscal 2024 results .
